Alix: A third of the crop was completely destroyed.

Carmella: Scurvy breaks out.

A: They realise that they have, in fact, been travelling in a circle.

C: They get caught in a hurricane.

A: ‘One woman in my town killed her seven-month-old baby.’

C: They next time they run out of food, things are getting very tense.

A: Sounds like survival cannibalism to me.

C: If only they could put aside their differences, they would realise that we’re all human, and that we… all eat other human beings.
